Trammell’s three-run homer helps Astros beat Blue Jays 7-2

Final line

Houston beat Toronto 7-2 on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026, at Daikin Park, with Trammell providing the biggest swing in a five-run fifth inning.

Trammell homered to right, a 388-foot drive that scored Walker and Altuve, and the Astros turned a tie game into a 6-2 lead. Altuve also singled in two runs in the game, including one in the seventh that set the final margin.

Astros score first

Houston took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Diaz singled to left and Altuve scored, with Trammell moving to second. The Astros added another run in the same inning when Smith singled to left. Trammell scored on the play, Smith reached second on a throwing error by left fielder Sánchez, and Diaz reached third on the error.

Toronto tied it in the fifth. Straw tripled to center, scoring Giménez, and then scored on a wild pitch by Hayden Wesneski to make it 2-2.

Houston answered in the bottom of the fifth. Altuve reached on an infield single to shortstop, bringing in Alvarez and moving Walker to second. Trammell followed with the only home run of the game, scoring Walker and Altuve for a 6-2 Astros lead.

Pitching lines

Wesneski earned the win and improved to 2-0. He pitched six innings, allowing four hits, two earned runs and two walks with four strikeouts.

Bennett Sousa pitched one inning for Houston, allowing no hits and no walks while striking out one. Enyel De Los Santos pitched two innings, allowing one hit, no earned runs and no walks with one strikeout.

Chad Dallas took the loss for Toronto and fell to 1-1. He allowed seven hits, six earned runs and four walks with three strikeouts in three innings. Trey Yesavage pitched two innings with no hits, no earned runs, one walk and no strikeouts.

Records

Altuve added Houston’s final run-scoring hit in the seventh, singling to center to score Walker for a 7-2 lead.

The Astros improved to 59-56. The Blue Jays fell to 53-61. Attendance was 30,450.
