Mariners Take Late Lead

The Seattle Mariners defeated the Houston Astros 3-2 on Sunday, August 16, at Daikin Park. The visitors secured the victory thanks to a strong pitching performance from Bryan Woo and timely hitting from their lineup. The game featured four solo home runs, with each team contributing two to the total.

Scoring Unfolds

Seattle opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when Arozarena hit a home run to left center field. The ball traveled 365 feet, giving the Mariners a 1-0 lead. Houston responded in the bottom of the third inning. Canzone singled to right field, allowing Rodden to score and extend the visitor's lead to 2-0.

The Astros cut into the deficit in the bottom of the fourth inning. Peña hit a home run to right field, carrying the ball 369 feet, to make the score 2-1. Seattle increased their advantage in the top of the sixth inning.

Raleigh hit a home run to left field, which went 327 feet, making it 3-1. Houston answered immediately in the bottom of the sixth. Allen hit a home run to left field, traveling 387 feet, to trim the margin to 3-2.

Pitching Performance

Bryan Woo earned the win for Seattle. He pitched six innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs while walking one batter and striking out five. The Mariners used four relievers.

Eduard Bazardo pitched one inning, allowing one hit and no earned runs. Gabe Speier pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing two hits and no earned runs. Seranthony Dominguez pitched one-third of an inning, allowing one hit and no earned runs.

Andres Munoz pitched one inning, allowing one walk and striking out two batters.

Hunter Brown took the loss for Houston. He pitched five innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs while walking five batters and striking out five. Bennett Sousa pitched one inning, allowing three hits and one earned run.

Bryan Abreu pitched one inning, allowing one hit and one walk. Steven Okert pitched one inning, allowing one strikeout and no hits or earned runs. Josh Hader pitched one inning, allowing one hit and no earned runs while striking out one batter.

Final Records

The win improved the Mariners' record to 59-66. The Astros fell to 63-62. Attendance at Daikin Park was 27,971.
