Jared Nuness, a former assistant men's basketball coach at Baylor University, has received sanctions from the NCAA due to his involvement in sports betting. He reportedly placed around 3,400 bets totaling approximately $38,000 on various professional and college sports. This situation arose after a third-party sports wagering monitoring system flagged Nuness in November 2025, prompting an internal investigation by Baylor.

Following Baylor's findings, which were reported to the NCAA in December 2025, a joint investigation was initiated. In February 2026, Nuness admitted to the NCAA that he breached regulations by wagering on professional sports using two online sportsbooks.

He also disclosed that he permitted his minor son to access these betting accounts, which led to the child making three bets on NCAA Division I men's basketball games totaling $170.

The NCAA confirmed that Nuness's bets did not involve Baylor University or its athletes. He accepted full accountability for his actions, and both he and the NCAA enforcement staff classified the situation as a Level II-Standard violation.

Nuness, who departed from Baylor's coaching staff in December 2025 due to personal issues, is now under a two-year show-cause order requiring him to complete sports betting education and provide similar training to his colleagues. He also faces a 10 percent suspension from athletically related activities, which translates to a three-game suspension, along with a public reprimand and censure.
