The Dallas Cowboys reportedly added running back Tyler Goodson on Tuesday after Malik Davis suffered a hip injury that requires surgery and will end his season. Goodson gives Dallas another back as the team adjusts its group, including special teams responsibilities Davis handled during the past two seasons.
Goodson, 25, spent three seasons with Indianapolis and appeared in 33 games. He had 54 carries for 264 yards, averaging 4.9 yards per attempt. The Cowboys had used Emari Demercado behind Javonte Williams against the Giants. Demercado ran twice for 7 yards, while Williams had 12 carries and caught five passes for 35 yards and a touchdown.
Goodson was released by Green Bay after joining the Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2023. Indianapolis later picked him up, and he subsequently spent time with Atlanta, including a return to the Falcons’ practice squad after being cut and clearing waivers. He recorded 304 special teams snaps over his last two seasons.
At Iowa, Goodson’s final season included 1,151 rushing yards and six touchdowns. He made an All-Big Ten team and posted a 4.42-second 40-yard-dash time. Israel Abanikanda had been elevated from the practice squad for Week 1, and it was unclear how Goodson’s arrival would affect his status.
