DeGrom’s Dominant Performance
Jacob deGrom delivered a masterful pitching display on Friday night, earning the win for the Texas Rangers with a six-inning, scoreless outing that featured ten strikeouts. The right-hander allowed just one hit and one walk while maintaining control throughout his time on the mound.
His performance was complemented by three relief pitchers who combined to keep the Washington Nationals off the scoreboard in the final three innings.
DeGrom’s efficiency was key to the Rangers’ success. He retired 17 of the first 18 batters he faced before issuing a walk, then navigated through the rest of his frame with precision. The victory improved his record to 9-8 on the season, marking his ninth win after striking out more than 2,000 career batters in his illustrious career.
Rangers’ Late Inning Support
The Rangers’ offense provided just enough run support to secure the win, with both scores coming in separate innings. In the third inning, Corey Seager launched a home run to left-center field, measuring 382 feet, giving Texas an early 1-0 lead. The ball cleared the fence for the team’s only extra-base hit of the game.
The second run arrived in the eighth inning when Adolis Garcia hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Marcus Semien to score from third base. This extended the Rangers’ advantage to 2-0. Despite generating just two total runs on minimal hits, the Rangers managed to hold off any potential rally by Washington.
