DeGrom’s Dominant Performance

Jacob deGrom delivered a masterful pitching display on Friday night, earning the win for the Texas Rangers with a six-inning, scoreless outing that featured ten strikeouts. The right-hander allowed just one hit and one walk while maintaining control throughout his time on the mound.

His performance was complemented by three relief pitchers who combined to keep the Washington Nationals off the scoreboard in the final three innings.

DeGrom’s efficiency was key to the Rangers’ success. He retired 17 of the first 18 batters he faced before issuing a walk, then navigated through the rest of his frame with precision. The victory improved his record to 9-8 on the season, marking his ninth win after striking out more than 2,000 career batters in his illustrious career.

Rangers’ Late Inning Support

The Rangers’ offense provided just enough run support to secure the win, with both scores coming in separate innings. In the third inning, Corey Seager launched a home run to left-center field, measuring 382 feet, giving Texas an early 1-0 lead. The ball cleared the fence for the team’s only extra-base hit of the game.

The second run arrived in the eighth inning when Adolis Garcia hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Marcus Semien to score from third base. This extended the Rangers’ advantage to 2-0. Despite generating just two total runs on minimal hits, the Rangers managed to hold off any potential rally by Washington.

Relief Pitching Seals the Win

Following deGrom’s exit, Jakob Junis entered in the seventh inning. He pitched a perfect frame, retiring all three batters he faced without allowing a hit or a run, though he did issue two walks. Chase Silseth followed in the eighth, also pitching a scoreless inning with two strikeouts and no hits allowed.

Closer Jacob Latz closed out the game in the ninth, striking out three batters to earn his 25th save of the season. He allowed one walk but did not surrender any hits or runs, preserving the shutout for the Rangers.

Game Summary and Records

The final score stood at Texas Rangers 2, Washington Nationals 0. Andrew Alvarez took the loss for Washington, pitching five innings and allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out five batters. Orlando Ribalta and Clayton Beeter each pitched one scoreless inning for the Nationals, while Tom Cosgrove allowed one earned run in his appearance.

The game was played at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, before a crowd of 21,179 spectators. With this win, the Texas Rangers improved their record to 63-65 on the season. The Washington Nationals fell to 61-68 after the defeat.
