LYON, the only team from North America's LCS still alive at the League of Legends World Championship, will face South Korea's Gen.G in a best-of-five quarterfinal this week at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center.
LYON earned the spot Saturday by coming back to beat LOS 2-1 after dropping the first game, Field Level Media reported. Kim "Berserker" Min-cheol had 16 of LYON's 34 kills in the deciding series.
Karmine Corp and Bilibili Gaming took the other two places left in the Swiss stage's final round. Karmine Corp swept Movistar KOI 2-0 and is the only team that came up through the play-in to reach the knockout stage. Bilibili swept Hanwha Life Esports by the same score.
The bracket
A draw after Saturday's matches set four quarterfinals, according to Inven Global:
- Gen.G vs. LYON
- Dplus KIA vs. Bilibili Gaming
- T1 vs. Karmine Corp
- Top Esports vs. Invictus Gaming
Under the draw rules, teams that went 3-0 in the Swiss stage were paired with teams that finished 3-2, and the two 3-0 teams, Dplus KIA and Gen.G, were placed on opposite halves so they cannot meet before the final. Teams from the same Korean league could not be drawn against each other in the quarterfinals.
