Vaqueros Texas Bar-B-Q has closed its restaurant at Watters Creek Village in Allen, ending a partnership between the barbecue brand and Dallas-based M Crowd Restaurant Group.

The restaurant announced the closing in a Facebook post on Wednesday, Oct. 28: "ALLEN, TX. , it's been real…Doors closed today at 4. Stay tuned. We ain't done yet." CultureMap Dallas and Local Profile both reported the closure Thursday.

M Crowd CEO Edgar Guevara confirmed the closing to both outlets but did not give a reason, CultureMap reported. He said the company's involvement with Vaqueros ended with the Allen location.

"At this time, we don't have any additional details to share regarding future plans for Vaqueros," Guevara told CultureMap. "Any future announcements regarding Vaqueros would come from the brand directly."

From food truck to Watters Creek

Vaqueros began as a food truck that pitmaster Arnulfo "Trey" Sánchez III started in Grapevine in 2018, according to the reports. It drew attention for twists on Texas barbecue such as barbecue birria and smoked cochinita pibil, and Local Profile noted Sánchez's 2024 recognition as a James Beard Award semifinalist.

M Crowd, the company behind Mi Cocina, which also has a Watters Creek location, partnered with Sánchez on a standalone restaurant that was announced in 2023 and opened in early 2025. CultureMap said the company co-owned the Allen restaurant with Sánchez, who stayed on as a partner and pitmaster. The restaurant was a nominee for best new restaurant in CultureMap's 2026 Tastemaker Awards.

CultureMap said it had reached out to Sánchez for comment. Neither outlet reported any plans for the space at Watters Creek, and no future location for Vaqueros has been announced.
