San Antonio police have arrested two men accused of committing armed robberies at a credit union and a car dealership on the city’s Northeast Side. Omar Resendez-Diaz, 57, and Luis Barrios, 36, are each charged with one count of aggravated robbery, according to court records.
The suspects remain held in the Bexar County Jail on bonds set at $350,000 for Resendez-Diaz and $500,000 for Barrios. Authorities say the pair stole more than $20,000 in cash and personal property during the incidents.
An arrest affidavit states that the robbery at Security Service Federal Credit Union occurred Saturday morning in the 16900 block of North Loop 1604. Surveillance video captured one suspect chasing employees while brandishing a machete. The affidavit alleges the suspect held the weapon over the staff in a threatening manner to demand money.
Fearing for their safety, employees complied with the demands. The suspects fled the credit union with cash, wallets, and purses. Investigators later determined the vehicle they used had been stolen the previous day from Auto Deluxe Center LLC.
According to police, two individuals matching the descriptions of Resendez-Diaz and Barrios held an employee at gunpoint at the dealership before taking cash and key fobs. The stolen vehicle was later found abandoned at a car wash in the 16000 block of Nacogdoches Road.
Surveillance footage showed the stolen vehicle arriving at the car wash shortly before the credit union robbery, alongside a Toyota Tundra registered to Resendez-Diaz. One person exited the Toyota and entered the stolen vehicle, which then drove away. Minutes after the robbery, the stolen vehicle returned to the car wash and was left behind, while the Toyota departed.
