Klassen Leads Angels Past Astros
The Los Angeles Angels defeated the Houston Astros 3-1 on Wednesday at Daikin Park. Rookie George Klassen secured the win with a seven-inning, one-hit, no-earned-run performance. He retired 22 of the first 23 batters he faced, striking out seven while walking three.
The Angels took control of the game early, building a three-run lead that they managed to hold despite a late rally attempt by the home team.
Scoring Sequence
The Angels scored their first run in the third inning. Schanuel singled to center, allowing Meckler to score and advancing Trout to third. The lead expanded in the fourth when Lowe hit a 345-foot home run to left field.
In the fifth inning, Neto doubled to shortstop, driving in Schanuel to make the score 3-0. The Astros answered in the eighth inning when Smith launched a 415-foot home run to left field, cutting the deficit to 3-1. No other runs were scored in the game.
Pitching and Records
Klassen (2-1) was the only starter to go deep into the game, facing 26 batters. The Angels used three relievers after Klassen. Jose Fermin pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing one earned run on two hits.
Ryan Watson pitched two-thirds of an inning without allowing hits or earned runs. Ben Joyce closed the game with one scoreless inning, striking out two batters to record the save.
For the Astros, Cristian Javier (1-4) took the loss. He pitched four innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs while walking one and striking out five. Bryan King followed, pitching two-thirds of an inning and allowing one earned run on one hit.
Enyel De Los Santos pitched one-third of an inning, allowing one hit with no earned runs. AJ Blubaugh pitched two scoreless innings, allowing one hit. Miguel Ullola finished the game with one scoreless inning, striking out two batters.
The Angels improved to 50-76. The Astros dropped to 63-63. Attendance at Daikin Park was 22,767.
