Quantrill anchors Rangers' shutout

The Texas Rangers defeated the Washington Nationals 5-0 on Wednesday, August 19, at Globe Life Field in Arlington. Cal Quantrill secured the win with seven innings of scoreless pitching, allowing four hits and striking out five batters while walking none. The Rangers finished with a record of 62-64, while the Nationals dropped to 60-67.

Scoring unfolds early

The Rangers took an early lead in the first inning when Langford scored on a double play. In the second inning, Foscue extended the lead with a home run to left field that traveled 400 feet. The offensive surge continued in the third inning.

Nimmo drove in Langford on a fielder's choice, followed by Seager scoring on a walk to Foscue. Freeman reached on an infield single to third, allowing Nimmo to score and giving the Rangers a 5-0 lead.

National pitching struggles

Jackson Kent took the loss for the Nationals. He lasted 3.2 innings, allowing eight hits and five earned runs while walking three and striking out three. Trevor Williams followed, pitching 3.1 innings with two hits, one walk, and five strikeouts. Yovanny Cruz finished the game, pitching one inning and allowing one hit without issuing a walk or recording a strikeout.

Bullpen closes it out

Robby Ahlstrom pitched 0.2 innings, allowing two hits and striking out two. Jakob Junis recorded one strikeout over 0.1 innings without allowing a hit or a walk. Tyler Alexander closed the game in the ninth, pitching one inning, allowing one hit, walking one, and striking out one. The game drew an attendance of 22,126 fans.
