The Dallas Cowboys are preparing three members of their 2026 draft class for expanded defensive duties against Baltimore on Sunday. Caleb Downs and Jaishawn Barham are expected to start, while Malachi Lawrence is set to receive important snaps as part of the rotation.
Coach Brian Schottenheimer said the plan was to give the rookies substantial opportunities, saying, “We knew we wanted our young guys to play.” He called Downs an elite player and said Barham has created major turnovers when he has been on the field. Schottenheimer also highlighted Lawrence’s pass-rushing ability, while noting that the young players will make mistakes as they develop.
The rookies’ increased responsibilities come with four defensive players missing Dallas’ Wednesday practice. Cobie Durant, Malik Hooker and P.J.
