Caden Powell, a native of Waco and former player at Baylor, is set to return to the basketball team for the 2026-27 season following a court injunction in Ohio. Powell, who has previously played for Wyoming and Rice, joined Baylor last season and transitioned from a backup center to a starter due to team injuries.
The Baylor Bears are preparing for a different season under head coach Scott Drew, focusing on a deeper roster to withstand the challenges of a full season and compete effectively. Powell's unexpected return significantly enhances the team's depth chart.
Although Powell may not secure a starting role immediately, he is anticipated to contribute significantly off the bench, bringing valuable defensive skills and serving as a lob threat. The projected depth chart includes guards Kayden Mingo and Dylan Mingo as starters, with Powell listed as a rotation center alongside Juslin Bodo Bodo, the starting center.
Powell's experience will be crucial for a team that previously had only two seniors, Evan Chatman and Juslin Bodo Bodo. His knowledge of the Big 12 will aid in fostering team chemistry and leadership as the season approaches.
