The Houston Texans are preparing for their preseason matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders on August 20, facing challenges due to injuries. Wide receiver Jayden Higgins has been ruled out for the entire season after suffering a torn ACL, impacting the team's offensive strategy led by quarterback C.J. Stroud, who has experienced a decline in performance over the last two years.
Despite these challenges, Stroud is expected to participate in the game, likely playing a few series, possibly up to 25 plays. The first-string offensive line is set to start, while the first-string defense will not be on the field. In Higgins' absence, Stroud will rely heavily on Nico Collins, who had a successful previous season, recording 71 catches for 1,117 yards and six touchdowns.
Other receivers, such as Tank Dell, Xavier Hutchinson, and Jaylin Noel, will also need to increase their contributions. Dell, who missed last season due to injury, had previously developed good chemistry with Stroud. Meanwhile, Noel was selected in the draft shortly after Higgins and was college teammates with him at Iowa State.
The Texans aim to refine their offensive approach as they head into the upcoming season, particularly in light of the loss of key players affecting their game plan.
