NETSCOUT, a provider of cybersecurity and observability solutions, has announced updates to its Arbor Edge Defense (AED) product line. The new features are intended to help enterprises maintain access to critical applications by identifying distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks that evade standard content delivery network (CDN) protections.
The system applies specific countermeasures to stop malicious traffic while allowing legitimate customers using the same CDN infrastructure to continue accessing services.
The company stated that organizations often rely on CDNs to manage traffic surges and accelerate digital experiences. However, NETSCOUT noted that CDN deployment alone does not eliminate DDoS risks. Vulnerabilities can remain in dynamic applications, APIs, authentication services, and exposed origin infrastructure.
Attackers may exploit these gaps by sending traffic that mimics legitimate user activity, allowing it to bypass generic CDN defenses and reach customer datacenters.
Christopher Rodriguez, a research director at IDC, commented on the operational and financial risks associated with these threats. He noted that cybercriminals aim to drain the resources of targeted organizations. Rodriguez added that effective defense must be dynamic and broad enough to protect critical services across the entire attack surface, as adversaries can target multiple layers of infrastructure and rapidly change their methods.
