Astros Complete Comeback in Fourth

The Houston Astros defeated the Los Angeles Angels 3-2 on Thursday, August 20, at Daikin Park. The Angels took an early lead, but Houston answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to secure the victory. The win improved the Astros' record to 64-63, while the Angels fell to 50-77. Attendance at the venue was 21,162.

Vázquez Leads Angels Offense

The Angels struck first in the third inning when Carlos Vázquez hit a home run to left field. The ball traveled 383 feet, giving Los Angeles a 1-0 lead. Vázquez’s power hit was the only home run recorded in the game. The Angels' offense stalled after that initial blast, allowing Houston to stay within striking distance for the remainder of the contest.

Houston Ties and Takes Lead

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Astros mounted a decisive rally. Michael Guzman doubled, allowing Scottie Lowe and Jordan Grissom to score, tying the game at 1-1. The momentum shifted further when Jose Altuve doubled to left field, scoring Yordan Alvarez and advancing Carlos Paredes to third base.

This play gave Houston a 2-1 lead. Shortly after, Smith hit a sacrifice fly to center field, enabling Paredes to score and extend the Astros' advantage to 3-1. The Angels scored an unearned run later in the frame to make it 3-2, but Houston held on for the win.

Pitching Performance

Ethan Pecko pitched 3.2 innings for the Astros, allowing three hits and two earned runs while striking out four batters. He issued three walks. Bennett Sousa earned the win after pitching 1.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out one.

Josh Hader recorded the save in one scoreless inning, allowing no hits and one walk. For the Angels, Walbert Urena took the loss. He pitched five innings, allowing three hits and three earned runs while striking out seven.

Tayler Saucedo pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, striking out two batters. The remaining Angels relievers combined for 2.2 scoreless innings with five strikeouts.
